Job Summary

The Clermont Police Department is seeking qualified and motivated individuals for the position of Police Officer. This role involves general law enforcement duties, including patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergencies, enforcing laws, and protecting life and property.

Officers will engage with the community, investigate crimes, apprehend suspects, and provide assistance to residents in need. This position may include specialized assignments such as traffic enforcement, investigations, K9, community outreach, and emergency response teams.

This is a non-exempt, full-time position, and overtime provisions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) apply.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Law Enforcement & Community Policing:

    • Enforce federal, state, and municipal laws to maintain public safety.
    • Conduct routine patrols in marked police vehicles, on foot, or by bicycle.
    • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
    • Monitor public areas for suspicious activity, criminal behavior, and safety hazards.
  • Crime Prevention & Investigation:

    • Conduct criminal investigations, interview witnesses, and collect evidence.
    • Apprehend and arrest individuals suspected of committing crimes.
    • Secure crime scenes and collaborate with detectives and forensic units.
    • Testify in court as needed to support criminal prosecutions.
  • Traffic & Public Safety:

    • Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, and conduct DUI investigations.
    • Respond to traffic accidents, assist victims, and investigate causes.
    • Direct traffic at accident scenes, public events, and during emergencies.
  • Emergency Response & Specialized Assignments:

    • Provide backup assistance to fellow officers in critical situations.
    • Respond to domestic disputes, public disturbances, and crisis situations.
    • Conduct search and rescue operations when needed.
    • Participate in specialized teams (e.g., SWAT, K9, marine unit, crime suppression).
  • Public Engagement & Community Relations:

    • Attend community meetings, school programs, and outreach events.
    • Develop relationships with residents and business owners to foster public trust.
    • Educate the community on crime prevention strategies and public safety measures.
  • Administrative & Training Duties:

    • Maintain detailed reports and documentation of incidents, arrests, and investigations.
    • Attend regular training sessions to maintain certifications and skills.
    • Utilize department technology to enter and retrieve crime-related data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (College degree preferred).
  • Age: Must be at least 20 years old at the time of application.
  • Certification: Must possess a Florida Law Enforcement Certification or have completed the Florida Basic Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Licensing: Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Criminal History:
    • No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving perjury or false statements.
    • No dishonorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces.
  • Background & Screening:
    • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
    • Successfully complete a physical assessment, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
